Outsourcing from Spain

Outsourcing to Colombia from Spain

The corridor hub with the most neutral accent and a contact centre sector built to export service.

In summary: Colombia combines native Spanish with a neutral accent, an export-oriented contact centre sector and wide overlap with the Spanish working day. It holds no adequacy decision, so processing European data requires standard contractual clauses.

Principal hub

Bogota

Time difference

seven hours behind mainland Spain in summer time and six in winter, because Spain observes daylight saving and this hub does not.

Data transfer

No adequacy decision. Standard contractual clauses apply and, depending on sensitivity, a transfer impact assessment.

Colombia has spent two decades building a contact centre sector oriented towards exporting services, first to the United States and then to Spain and the rest of Latin America. The result is a labour market with people trained specifically for customer service rather than redeployed from something else.

The Colombian accent, and the Bogota accent in particular, is the one a Spanish listener most readily identifies as neutral. That reduces initial friction in voice support, which is where accent weighs most and where there is least room to explain yourself.

Why Colombia?

  • A neutral accent for voice support

The factor that most reduces perceived friction on a first call, and the hardest to correct later if the hub is chosen badly.

  • A sector trained to export service

People with prior experience in service operations for external markets, with a measurement and quality culture already in place.

  • Established bilingual capacity

A broad base of Spanish and English bilingual agents, allowing both languages to be covered from one team where the operation calls for it.

  • A wide common window with Spain

The Spanish afternoon coincides with the Colombian morning, so daily coordination forces nobody to work outside their hours.

Cost structure

The monthly minimum wage for 2026 was set at 1,750,905 pesos, up 23.7 percent and the largest rise since 1991, with the transport allowance at 249,095 pesos.

The Colombian structure is not limited to contributions, and it is worth understanding before comparing. On top of salary sit the transport allowance, statutory social benefits, social security contributions and payroll taxes, and they do not share a calculation base: the transport allowance is not a salary factor for social security or payroll taxes, but it does enter the base for statutory benefits.

With every component added, the real monthly cost of an employee on the minimum wage comes to around 2,715,490 pesos against a base salary of 1,750,905. The gap between what the person receives and what the company pays is therefore wider than in a country where only contributions are added.

One note of caution about the figure: a 23.7 percent rise in a single year means a cost model built on one year's number in this market can go out of date quickly.

Data protection

Colombia holds no European Commission adequacy decision. Processing European personal data from Colombia requires standard contractual clauses and, depending on sensitivity, a transfer impact assessment.

In practice the design that works best is role-based access, access logging, and limiting export of data outside the client's systems, so the team works inside your platform rather than on copies.

What does not fit in Colombia

The same limits as the rest of the Latin America corridor.

  • Processes with mandatory data residency in the European Economic Area
  • Support in Spain's co-official languages
  • Services requiring physical presence in Spain
  • Support in European languages other than Spanish and English

Frequently asked questions

Why Colombia rather than another corridor country?

Mainly the accent, which is the most neutral for a Spanish listener, and the depth of the contact centre sector. For non-voice processes, where accent plays no part, the choice turns on other factors and may well be different.

Can English-language support be delivered from Colombia?

Yes. The bilingual agent base allows Spanish and English to be covered from the same team, which simplifies the operation when English volume does not justify a team of its own.

Which transfer instruments apply?

Standard contractual clauses, since there is no adequacy decision, and a transfer impact assessment where the sensitivity of the data requires one.

How does the minimum wage rise affect price?

It is one variable in the cost model, which is why proposals break the components out rather than giving a closed figure. The 23.7 percent rise for 2026 is unusually large and worth bearing in mind when comparing against earlier years.
