What a customer service seat really costs in Spain in 2026

Corpshore Spain editorial team · · · 7 min read

In summary: the direct annual cost of a contact centre agent in Spain in 2026 exceeds 22,000 euros once the collective agreement salary and employer social security are combined. That is the floor: workspace, equipment, recruitment, turnover and supervision sit on top.

The question looks simple and is almost never answered well. When a Spanish company compares keeping an in-house customer service team against outsourcing it, it usually compares gross salary against the provider's rate, and that comparison is skewed from the first number.

This article breaks the cost down using public, verifiable data, and states clearly where what can be evidenced with a source ends and estimation begins.

What is the collective agreement salary for a contact centre agent?

The contact centre collective agreement sets entry-level agent pay for 2026 at 17,139.58 euros a year, distributed across fourteen payments. The agreed increase for the year was 3.4 percent.

The agreement also sets working time at 1,764 annual hours and a 39-hour week, with 32 calendar days of holiday, and recognises a language supplement of 130.95 euros a month for roles regularly working in a language other than Castilian Spanish.

That last point matters more than it looks for a Spanish operation: support in Catalan, Basque, Galician or any European language carries an additional cost recognised in the agreement. It is not a provider preference.

How much does employer social security add?

On the contribution base, the employer pays 23.60 percent for common contingencies in 2026, 5.50 percent for unemployment on a permanent contract, 0.60 percent for vocational training, 0.20 percent for the wage guarantee fund, and 0.75 percent as its share of the intergenerational equity mechanism.

On top of that sits the rate for workplace accidents and occupational illness, which varies by activity and typically falls between 1 and 7 percent.

Taken together, employer social security costs land indicatively between 31 and 35 percent of gross salary. Applying the midpoint of that range to the collective agreement salary, the direct annual cost of an agent exceeds 22,000 euros.

What does that figure leave out?

Everything that is not payroll. Workspace and its share of rent and utilities, IT equipment and telephony, contact centre and CRM software licences, and the recruitment cost of every hire.

Two further items are almost always omitted and weigh heavily in customer service. The first is turnover: every departure means a new recruitment process, a training period during which the person is paid and not yet fully productive, and a temporary drop in quality. The second is supervision, because a team of agents needs a leader, and that leader's cost spreads across the people they manage.

This is where what we can evidence with a public source ends and estimation begins, so we say it as an estimate: depending on the case, these items typically add between 20 and 40 percent on top of direct cost. We do not publish an exact figure because it would rest too heavily on assumptions of our own.

How does that compare with an outsourced model?

The correct comparison is not salary against rate, it is total internal cost against rate. A provider's rate already includes recruitment, training, technology, supervision and the cost of replacing people who leave, which in the internal model are separate and frequently invisible line items.

Savings against in-house hiring in Spain typically land between 50 and 70 percent, and where you fall within that range depends mostly on the delivery model: an onshore team within Spain sits at the lower end, and the Latin America corridor at the higher end.

One nuance is worth keeping in view. A high percentage saving usually says as much about the buyer's starting point as about the provider. If your current operation is well sized with low turnover, the saving will be smaller, and that is good news about your operation rather than bad news about the proposal.

What should you ask for in a proposal so you can compare?

Ask for the breakdown, not the final price. A proposal that gives only a per-seat figure cannot be compared against your internal cost, because you do not know what it covers.

Ask specifically what happens with turnover: whether the provider absorbs the cost of replacing and training someone who leaves, or whether that is billed separately. That is the difference between a stable rate and a rate that grows with the provider's problems.

And ask about the capacity model. A provider sizing against the average and one sizing against the 95th percentile will quote different prices, and since Law 10/2025 came into force that difference also carries compliance consequences.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the 17,139.58 euro figure come from?

From the 2026 salary tables of the contact centre collective agreement, entry-level agent, across fourteen payments. The source is linked at the end of the article.

Is the 31 to 35 percent social security figure exact?

It is an indicative range. The rates for common contingencies, unemployment, vocational training, the wage guarantee fund and the intergenerational equity mechanism are fixed, but the workplace accident rate varies by activity, between 1 and 7 percent.

Why not publish an exact fully loaded figure?

Because it would depend on assumptions of ours about rent, licences and turnover that vary widely between companies. We publish the direct cost, which we can evidence, and flag the rest as an estimate.

Does the minimum wage affect this calculation?

The statutory minimum wage for 2026 is 1,221 euros a month across fourteen payments, 17,094 euros a year. The contact centre agreement's entry level sits just above that figure.
